Embracing My Brand

Today I am celebrating my brand story which started 11 years ago. Being a baker and a pastry chef has been my passion since childhood. The better part of my childhood, I lived with my grandmother who liked baking cakes. We did not have electricity at our home until 2012 and this did not limit my grandmother from baking. She used the rims of a car tire to create an oven like environment,  then mix the cake butter with a mwiko and basin then pour it in a sufuria and let it bake in her handmade oven. It was always a beautiful night watching her bake, since she always baked after her day duties. She called it “Kunyîhîa húàí” meaning passing time in the evening.

Therefore, I grew up in an environment where cakes were valued not to mention the yummy brown mandazis and chapatis. Funny enough, despite the heavy work one has to undergo baking and making chapatis and mandazi, she liked to do it alone since she believes that many cooks spoil the broth.
My grandmother was diabetic hence all her baked goods were low sugar, as kids we did not like that since we liked sugary things. So my brothers and I used to over sugar the tea to give the cakes and mandazi some extra sugar taste.
But as we grew up, we embraced the love and warmth that our grandmother had as she made those cakes and mandazis, we used to wake up at night to go steal some mandazis from the kitchen.

That was my growing up, and that’s how my passion for baking and pastry began. In 2010, I was in class six and decided to do baking as a business. My aunt bought a juakali oven that I used in baking. I sold cakes to shops and I pressed on until i completed primary school.Even after joining highschool,  my passion did not die since i used my holidays to supply cakes to shops and schools.Glory be to God, I got the Embu University Tender to supply cakes to their shop.

My brand story is deep since I embraced this line of work up until campus where I did B.Sc. Food Science and Technology,  this is a course that deals with food production that is in line with my baking desire.I have grown and learned a lot of things since then, and that gave me the drive to open Crave Eats Kitchen which is a brand that has put its focus on baked goods (Cakes for all occasions and pastries). I admire how I have managed to get premium recipes that keep my customers asking for more. I love and treasure this brand since it was inspired by my Late Grandmother and supported my family members. Hence, I will use my creativity and problem solving skills to make Delicious cakes and pastries as i incorporate people with gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance and diabetic people into enjoying cakes and pastry without worrying about their health due to the nutritious snacks that I make.
